What Unmarked supports today
Unmarked declares Dark Interface, Differentiate Without Color Alone and Reduced Motion in the App Store. Read mode gives screen readers clean text, and Write mode still announces hidden Markdown marks.
Features verified for the App Store listing
- Dark interface
- Every theme has a dark palette, and Unmarked can follow the Mac’s appearance.
- Without color alone
- Links are underlined; checkboxes keep their shape; quotes have a bar; code sits in a distinct surface.
- Reduced motion
- Interface changes are brief opacity fades. The outline’s reading marker slides between headings, and stays still when Reduce Motion is on.
Keyboard and larger text
Reading and writing text can be raised to 32 pt. The editor uses standard macOS text controls. The Insert menu in the menu bar adds tables, images, code blocks, dividers, quotes and lists, and Insert Table has its own shortcut, ⌥⌘T. Headings come from the Format menu or ⌘1 to ⌘6. Icon-only controls have spoken labels.
Screen readers
Read mode presents clean document text without Markdown punctuation. Local image alt text is passed to the accessibility system in both Read and Write modes. VoiceOver reads an equation as its LaTeX source.
Outline rows announce each heading’s title and level, and which heading you’re reading. When another app changes the open file, the “Updated from disk” note is announced too.
Write mode remains verbose with a screen reader: hidden Markdown marks such as heading signs and raw link addresses are still announced. Heading navigation in the rotor, keyboard control of Read-mode checkboxes and some table behavior also need more work. We do not declare VoiceOver support in the App Store while those gaps remain.
Contrast
Body text has been measured to pass WCAG AA across the built-in themes. On-screen code colors meet WCAG AA (4.5:1) against the code background, except comments, which sit at 3.6:1. Some secondary text and dimmed Markdown marks do not yet reach the same threshold, so we do not declare Sufficient Contrast in the App Store.
